Reg Cook Triples
It was a warming sight when 48 players from three clubs turned out for the Kiri Te Kanawa Village-sponsored Reg Cook Triples last Wednesday.
With two wins and a draw from the three games played, Ian Carroll (skip), Ted Mehrtens and Ngawai Turipa got their hands on the memorial trophy.
Carol Hawes (s), Dennis Raggett and Ray Young, with two wins, 14 ends won and a points differential of +8, were second ahead of Lesley McIntosh (s), Bruce Gledhill and Kym Brown. They also had two wins and 14 ends won but a points differential of +5.
In fourth place, Gus McCabe (s), Anne Day and Ron Seabrook won 13 ends in their two wins.
Championship fours
The club’s open fours championships will be played this Saturday. Entries close at 4pm tomorrow.
Coming up
The club’s next tournament is the Ernie Robinson Triples on Wednesday, October 31. Entries close the day before. Entry sheets are up at the three city clubs.
Poverty BayDiane Christie and Ron Seabrook won the Sunshine Brewery-sponsored 2x4x2 mixed pairs.
They were the only team to record four wins. On the way to their victory, they won 24 ends and had a shot differential of +7. It was a hard-won victory, as the shot differential illustrates.
A full green of 16 teams contested this tournament on Saturday. They played four games of 10 ends or 90 minutes.
Runners-up were Ricky Miller and Barbara Gibson from the Gisborne club. They won three games and lost one. They won 25 ends and had a differential of +23.
Jeff and Joy Davis were third, with three wins and 23 ends won.
Peter and Kym Walters won 22 ends, the difference of one end relegating them to the ranks of the also-rans.
The day was remarkable for the rain and cold wind, which made play most uncomfortable, and for the number of drawn games, which showed how evenly matched several of the teams were.
Dawne Abraham and Puna McRoberts drew three games before gaining a win in their fourth. Three further drawn games were played in the third round.
