“They’re both good bowlers and keen. With more experience they can develop further.
“Both have trained with us since before Christmas.”
Loffler said that with Holden out, Timoti Weir and Matt Cook would “most likely open the bowling”.
Weir (4-23) and Holden (3-26) set up the Doleman Cup final win against Kevin Hollis Glass Pirates, who were rolled for 86.
“Those two did the damage but someone who sometimes gets overlooked is our keeper Kieran Venema,” Loffler said.
“KV’s been keeping well since the start of the season.”
Boys’ High coach Ben O’Brien-Leaf is in a rebuilding phase after losing his two main bowlers Jak Rowe and Jarrod Davenport, who have both left school.
And tomorrow O’Brien-Leaf won’t have skipper Robbie Tallott, who is on duty with the Northern Districts under-17 team.
Tallott and his Poverty Bay teammate Thorn Parkes are in the ND u17 squad to compete in Christchurch at the national u17 tournament, which starts next week.
O’Brien-Leaf will look to right-arm medium- pace bowler Ryan Nepe to lead from the front.
Drew Scott, until he was injured, Ben McNeil and Paul Stewart showed their potential during the senior secondary schools tournament here before Christmas.
It will be interesting to see if they can carry on their form against an experienced OBR side.
Pirates v Horouta¦ Pirates will look to put their Doleman Cup final loss behind them when they play Horouta.
“That (the final) was just one of those games,” Pirates skipper Mitchell Turner said.
“The boys have been pretty quiet over the Christmas period but they’ll be ready to get back into it and Horouta first up is a good one to start with.
“They’ve got a tidy bowling attack (Marty Brandso and Blake Taylor in particular) and have batsmen who can score quickly.”
Apart from Quinton Mill and Kieran Blair, Horouta will field a side similar to the one who lost to Pirates in the Doleman Cup semifinal.
“We let them get away, then pegged them back but they still scored 222-7, which proved too big for us to chase down,” said club captain and opener Greg Taylor, who missed the match with a back injury.
“The back is better now but we (Taylor and skipper Bryan Forde) have not decided on the batting line-up at this stage.
“Our goal at the start of the season was to make the top-four playoffs and we achieved that.
“Now the aim is to build on what we did before Christmas.
“One of the things we will look to improve is our middle-order batting.
“We’ll be looking to the players who are in their first season with the club to continue their improvement.”
Taylor said two players in particular who deserved a mention were Keegan Martin and Sukhi Karpania.
“Unfortunately Keegan, who’s had a good season so far with the bat, won’t be around next season. He is keen to join the air force.
“Sukhi has been good value with his medium pacers.”
Campion College v Gisborne Boys' High School¦ Campion College, another side rebuilding after the end of the school year, take on Gisborne Boys’ High School (2), who will lose players to the first 11.
On paper, Campion should edge this one but their pre-Christmas form was erratic.
There were some good individual performances but collectively they failed to fire.
Boys’ High 2 have yet to win this season but if player-coach Paul Jefferson gets going there could be an upset.
