Stockcar racer James Clarke (29G) made the final of the New Zealand Stockcar Championship at the Meeanee Track in Hawke's Bay on Saturday night.
Clarke's effort was huge, given there were 244 cars involved in qualifying for the top 30 for the final.
Half a dozen drivers from the Gisborne
Speedway Club entered. Clarke was the only one of them to qualify for the final.
“I got 17th in the first race, 12th in the second and then had a DNF (did not finish) in the third, due to a broken axle.
“I think I finished 17th, which was a pretty good achievement, given I finished only two of the three finals races.”
