GISBORNE gymnast Capria Tamatea won the Step 2 event at the Mid Island Gym Sports annual competition in Rotorua this month.

She and 30 other members of the Gisborne Gymnastics Club took part in “by far the biggest and most strenuous event” they had attended, club coach Nicola Ludwig said.

“A total of 788 gymnasts competed over two days,” she said.

“For most of our gymnasts, the goal was a qualification score towards the next step or level and improvement on the overall score from their previous competition.

“The golden star of the competition was Capria Tamatea, who was overall winner for Step 2 girls nine years and over. She showed great confidence and consistency during her performances.”
