Gisborne’s Saffi Vette was among the top-performing surfers in the New Zealand team at the world junior champs at Huntington Beach, California.
She made it through to round 4 of the main draw — finishing fourth in her heat, then placing fourth in her repechage.
She contributed 413 points to
the New Zealand team score of 3628, which placed them 12th overall on the team standings topped by Japan from the USA and Australia.
Hamilton’s Caleb Cutmore had the best result of the Kiwi surfers, placing 13th-equal in the u18 boys division.
