GISBORNE Boys' High School took the top spot at the Tairawhiti High School Surfing Championships on Tuesday.

With 2900 points, GBHS narrowly beat Gisborne Girls' High School, who had 2700 points. Campion College finished third on 1500 points.

Both Boys' High and Girls' High put in strong showings, taking clean sweeps in their under-18 divisions.

Competition favourite Finn Vette won his u18 division, while Hannah King won the girls' side of the draw.

In the u16 boys' division, Tigher West Hill (GBHS) took the honours, beating favourite Eli Livingston, who had won the Year 9 and 10 division at the Tairawhiti junior champs.

Campion's Asia Braithwaite continued her strong summer of surfing with a win in the u16 girls' division.

Correspondence student Gabe Lobb won the u14 boys' division after competing in the open final of the Gisborne Boardriders Club Super Slam series.

Under-16 girls: Asia Braithwaite (Campion) 1, Case Dewes (GGHS) 2, Tui Ruifrok (GGHS) 3.

U18 girls: Hannah King (GGHS) 1, Sophie Hemi-Holloway (GGHS) 2, Aria Randall (GGHS) 3.

U14 boys: Gabe Lobb (Correspondence) 1, Hunter Lynch (GBHS) 2, Harry Hayward (GBHS) 3, Austin Fergus (GBHS) 4.

U16 boys: Tigher West Hill (GBHS) 1, Eli Livingston (GBHS) 2, Max Phillips (GBHS) 3, William Matthews (GBHS) 4.

U18 boys: Finn Vette (GBHS) 1, Louis Evans (GBHS) 2, Harry Allen (GBHS) 3, Hue Cowie (Campion) 4.

Top schools: GBHS 2900 points, GGHS 2700, Campion 1500.
