Biggest fight of Brock's career

GISBORNE-born boxer Shay Brock has a shot at a world title tomorrow night in Melbourne.

Auckland-based Brock is taking on 25-year old Australian boxer Dwight Ritchie for the vacant IBF Youth Super Welterweight Title at the Melbourne Pavilion.

Brock, also 25, has been training hard since his majority draw against the more experienced Gunnar Jackson of Tauranga in November.

“All of the hard work has been done. I'm ready to get the job done," he said.

“I was disappointed with how I looked in that last fight. I was not in the zone, not clicking.

“After that, I sat down with my team, and decided on what I needed to do, to take it seriously. Since then we've taken it all up a few notches.”

Brock’s last bout was eight rounds, the most he had ever fought. This world title fight is 10 rounds.

“I have stepped up the training and am feeling good,” Brock said.

“I have been doing back-to-back, eight-round spar sessions, followed by some shadow boxing, and I'm still going.”

Ritchie has a professional record of 15 wins (two by knockout) and one loss.

“This will be the biggest bout of my career,” Brock said.

“It doesn't get much bigger than a world title.”
