Poverty Bay have finished their representative cricket season with a huge win.

Bruce Kerr destroyed the Waikato Valley second 11 bowling attack in Hamilton yesterday, spanking an unbeaten 119 off 75 balls as Bollywood Stars Poverty Bay cantered to a nine-wicket win with 15.2 overs to spare in their 50-over match.

Captain and opening batsman Nic Hendrie cruised to an unbeaten century off 94 balls.

Poverty Bay ended the season unbeaten in Northern Districts’ second-tier Basil McBurney Trophy competition.

No.3 Kerr, who made 93 in Poverty Bay’s previous match against Hamilton B last month, smashed five sixes and 15 fours.

Hendrie’s 100 not out included three sixes and nine fours.

Waikato Valley tried nine bowlers and nearly all had the long handle taken to them.

Waikato Valley won the toss and chose to bat at the St Paul’s Collegiate ground, renowned as a good surface.

They got off to a bad start, losing both openers without scoring.

Reduced to 64-6 and then 104-7, they recovered to post 245-8.

No.7 Cameron Parsons hit 74 and No.9 Jack Collins scored 68 not out.

For Poverty Bay, Jake Rowe took 3-28 off seven overs and the other wickets were shared around.

Waikato Valley 245-8 (Cameron Parsons 74, Jack Collins 68 not out, Jake Rowe 3-28) lost to Poverty Bay 249-1 off 34.4 overs (Bruce Kerr 119 not out, Nic Hendrie 100 not out, Cameron Ingram 22).
