The Poverty Bay Year 7 B team finished their six-game Hawke’s Bay cricket camp with a sound win against a Cambridge Y7 team yesterday.

Bowling first, Poverty Bay bowled exceptionally well to dismiss Cambridge for 99.

Luke Fisher was the chief destroyer, taking 4-13 off his four overs. Daniel Watts, Finn Castleman, Lachlan Allan, DJ Penfold and Fletcher Ware got one wicket each, and Cambridge’s last wicket fell in the 23rd over of the 30-over match.

In reply, Poverty Bay made 101-2, reaching the target in the 18th over.

Ben Soloman, 42 not out, scored his second 40 and honours-board performance. Travis O’Rourke got the team off to a flying start with 24 runs, and Jack Whitehead made 17no.

Wins against Cambridge and Horowhenua, and a strong performance against Wairarapa were among the highlights of the six-game camp.

A feature was the steady growth in confidence of all the players.
