‘Awesome’ field for season-opening tournament

A line-up of 26 teams will take part in the annual Kathleen Henderson tournament at Victoria Domain this weekend to open the netball season in the district.

Gisborne Netball Centre manager Allisa Hall said it was “awesome” to have so many teams entered across the various grades.

“We are so excited to be running the Sutherland Auto Kathleen Henderson Tournament this Saturday.

“We were unsure how entries would look given the adversity we’ve faced in our region recently, so this is fantastic to see, and really shows how keen our community are to get back out on the courts.” Hall said.

“A reminder that despite being in the ‘red’ setting of the Covid-19 Protection Framework, there are no longer gathering restrictions for outdoor venues, so we can allow spectators for the day.

“While we do not need to scan in or have contact tracing now, we still have some QR codes on our windows so people can scan if they still prefer to.”

They would be using courts 1, 2, 5, 6, 9 and 10,” she said.

“If your team has a gazebo to set up, please feel free to do this, but make sure you are a reasonable distance from the playing courts.”
