KAHUTIAVern Marshall, Jock Smith and Joe Wimutu won the Beetham Lifestyle Village single-entry optional triples tournament last week. They were the only team to win all four of their games.

Second place went to Ropata Ruwhiu, Ngawai Turipa and Frank McLaughlin, with three wins and a differential of +22. Maurice Taylor, Mike Travers and Tony Dobson were third, with three wins and +16.

The Thursday aggregate series is still drawing reasonable attendances. Tony Dobson holds a narrow lead in Block 3 but is being hotly pursued by Kevin Bright and several others. This block finishes tomorrow.

POVERTY BAYThe club’s open fours championships were completed this month. Two teams entered the women’s event and four entered the men’s. As usual for championships, the two-life system was used and 12-end matches were played.

Jan Powell, Kathy Carroll, Erin Sutherland and Marilyn Knowles beat Ora Peipi, Lesley Holmes, Grace Bragg and Norma Miller in their first encounter but the result was reversed in their second clash.

Peipi’s team started well with six shots in the first four ends of the final but Powell’s team responded with nine shots in the next two ends, and maintained the momentum to claim the title 14-9.

Steve Berezowski, David Holmes, Luke Sanders and Dennis Crone won the men’s title after two hard-fought matches with Jon Davies, Peter Walters, Bruce Ball and Jareth Gaskin. Mark Bain was originally playing as three in the winners’ team but was replaced by Holmes for the last two matches.

The popular Hello World twilight aggregate series was concluded two weeks ago. These evenings averaged 44 bowlers, who played for 90 minutes then enjoyed a sausage sizzle and a social get-together. There were also spot prizes and “spiders”, with a circle of bowlers trying to get their bowl closest to a centrally located prize.

Dave Hooper won the series, followed by Ricky Peipi and Joy Davis.
