The top three leads all achieved three wins for nine game points, so the winner was determined by ends won.
Junior player Norma Miller was the winner, with 26 ends. She was followed by Trish Leach, 24 ends, and Diane Oates, 21 ends.
Five directors each scored nine game points.
Erin Sutherland won the top spot, with 24 ends. She was followed by two visitors from the Kahutia club — Don Oates, 23 ends, and Alic Brown, 22 ends.
The skips’ section was more clear-cut. Lex Kennedy won, unbeaten with 12 points. Bruce Ball, with three wins and a draw, had 10 points to be runner-up. It was pleasing to see Larry Kaloucava back from illness and claiming third place with three wins for nine points.
Joy and Jeff Davis, with Norma Miller as lead, won the mixed triples club championship on Saturday.
They had three wins and a draw for 10 points.
They were closely followed by the experienced pair of Dawne Abraham and Barrie Denham who, with Robyn Arthur as their lead, had three wins for nine points.
The eight evenly matched teams played four games of 10 ends with a time limit of 90 minutes a game.
Many of the games included some dramatic ends. Overall, heads were tightly formed, indicating a high standard of play, and the shouts and exclamations from players and spectators was a sign of the friendly atmosphere.

GisborneSaturday bowling again proved popular with Gisborne club bowlers at the weekend, with a strong turnout indicating that it could become a fixture on the club’s calendar.
Lyn Trueman (skip), Harry Jackson and Barbara Gibson had the measure of the rest with two wins and a superior points differential.
Also with two wins, Ted Mehrtens (s), Tony Steele and Reg Hart were second. Third, with a win and a draw, were Lorna Reeve (s), Margot Willock and Bruce Smart.
Bowls New Zealand playoffs
As centre champions, Gisborne bowlers will be in action on five of the six days of play when the regional playoffs of the Bowls New Zealand club championships are held in Napier next week.
The winners of each discipline advance to the national finals in Auckland in late April.
First up on Tuesday, Robin Jefferson and Beverly Davy will try to advance in the mixed pairs, followed on Wednesday by Jamey Ferris in the men’s singles.
On Thursday, Steve Goldsbury (s) and Jefferson play the men’s pairs, followed on Friday by the club’s two triples champions, Bobbie Beattie (s), Tanya Harrison and Barbara Gibson, and Arthur Hawes (s), Malcolm Trowell and David Beattie.
The other centres taking part are Hawke’s Bay, Manawatu and Wairarapa.
Mixed results for reps
THE club was well represented when the Gisborne-East Coast men’s representative teams contested the two national inter-centre championships in Auckland and Christchurch during the past two weeks.
The two teams struck strong competition but battled well with mixed results. The experience, though, was invaluable and all the players will have gained from it.
Jamey Ferris, in his last year as a junior, Malcolm Trowell and Tim Sherriff were in Auckland with the seven-strong under-8 representative team before Ferris and Trowell joined clubmates Steve Goldsbury, Robin Jefferson and Bob McIlroy in Christchurch for the open inter-centre.
Women’s pro pairs
THE Bronwyn Kay Women’s Pro Pairs competition is only 17 days away and entries from Auckland, Bay of Plenty and Hawke’s Bay have been accepted.
Members are urged to get their entries in pronto for the $2000 tournament because indications are that this year the event will be bigger and brighter than the last.
On the same weekend, April 14 and 15, Kahutia Bowling Club will hold its men’s pro pairs. It will be a good opportunity for husbands and wives to enjoy a weekend of top bowling, albeit at different venues.
