Around the Greens: Club bowls news

The Reg Cook Triples, sponsored by Kiri Te Kanawa Retirement Village, drew 42 players to the Gisborne Bowling Club’s pristine greens.

Although it is still early in the bowling season, there was some excellent play.

With good music from the ’60s echoing across the greens and pleasant conditions, it was a great afternoon of bowls.

The top three teams on the day had to work hard for their wins. Bowlers are settling into their season and newcomers are proving to be quick learners.

The pink glittery bowls of Arthur Hawes on his home track are always hard to beat.

He skipped the winning team, and was ably helped by Dave Hooper (Poverty Bay) and Diane Phillips (Gisborne). They took the trophy with two wins and a draw.

Skip Maurice Taylor (Gisborne), Mike Harris (Gisborne) and Ron Seabrooke (Poverty Bay) sneaked into second place with two wins and a differential of plus 22.

Skip Ray Taylor (Kahutia), Ngawai Turipa (Poverty Bay) and Adrienne Torrie (Gisborne) were third with two wins and a differential of plus 12.
