Steve Berezowski, Pat Bayley and Neville Wagner won the Owen Shield tournament hosted by Kahutia Bowling Club on Labour Weekend Monday.

The Stonehaven Owen Shield annual competition was played in sunny weather and enjoyed by members of all clubs taking part.

Teams each played three games of 65 minutes.

Runners-up were Jock Smith, Tony Dobson and June Kinder.

The Stonehaven Owen Shield was presented by Kevin Bright, a family member and also a life member of the Kahutia Bowling Club.

Twelve teams took part in the Beetham Lifestyle Village Ernie Robinson Trophy tournament held on Gisborne Bowling Club's greens last Wednesday.

The winners were Arthur Hawes (skip), Janice Allan and Jenny Evans.

Runners-up were Harry Jackson (s), Dianne Oates and Joan Gledhill.

Third were Gus McCabe (s), Lesley McIntosh and Libby Clay.

Teams played three games of 65 minutes, and then had afternoon tea and prizegiving.

Thanks go to Beetham Lifestyle Village for the sponsorship and to the other town clubs' members who took part.

Spectators were treated to entertaining games with some fine bowling at Poverty Bay Bowling Club's Open Pairs Championships.

The first day was fine and sunny, with strengthening wind as the day wore on.

On the second day, the women's and men's finals produced exciting, close play.

Betty Herring (skip) and Kathryn Flaugere won the women's open pairs, with Ora Peipi (s) and Ngawai Turipa runners-up.

Don Williams (s) and Peter Walters won the men's open pairs, with Jon Kora (s) and Michael Donnelly runners-up.
