VISITORS from Poverty Bay, Gisborne and Tolaga Bay bowling clubs added to the sense of occasion when Kahutia Bowling Club held an open triples tournament last week.

Kahutia senior player Murray Owen skipped the winning team in the Beetham Lifestyle Village Open Triples Tournament.

Gisborne club junior Peter Clay was the winning team’s director and Poverty Bay three-year junior Diane Doyle was lead.

They won three games for six points, and won 15 ends along the way.

Runners-up were Kahutia senior singles champion Murray Murton (skip), Poverty Bay member Ngawai Turipa (director) and Gisborne’s Margot Willock (lead). They, too, won three games for six points, but won only 14 ends, one less than the winners.

Playing conditions for the tournament were magnificent. Teams played three games of eight ends or 75 minutes, and competition was keen on prestige greens.

It was an enjoyable day of bowls, due in no small measure to the support of the Poverty Bay, Gisborne and Tolaga Bay bowling clubs . . . thank you. — Cuzz
