Kahutia Bowling Club members completed their championship triples over the weekend despite all the rain during the week.

Greenkeeper Frank McLoughlin must be congratulated for his continuing dedication to his duties. He produced first-class playing surfaces in trying circumstances.

Six teams entered the senior men's event. After keen competition over the two days, the unbeaten combination of July Hoepo (skip), Leighton Shanks (director) and William Murray (lead) were the winners and were presented with the Ken Preston Memorial Trophy.

Runners-up were one-lifers Alastair Macpherson (skip), Joe Wimutu and Ray Young (lead).

Only three entries were received for the senior women's triples.

After some competitive play over the two days, the team of Ngamiro Allen (skip), Dayvinia Mills (director) and Karen Pinn (lead) won the event and also the Wagner Trophy by ending up unbeaten despite two hard-fought games against runners-up Glenys Whiteman (skip), Lucy Shanks (director) and Emily Hongara (lead).

Dianne Phillips (skip), Joyce Wagner (director) and first-year player Lois Wimutu (lead) also played well, and had close games against the Whiteman and Allen combinations.

The club also hosted the Mitre 10-sponsored midweek single-entry optional triples recently.

An excellent entry of 42 players resulted in a full green turnout.

After three games of competitive play, the team of Dianne Phillips, Peter Clay and Bruce Gledhill ran out the winners and were presented with their prizes by the sponsor's owner, Geoff Taylor.
