It was an emotional time for Dawne Abraham when she presented the Joyce Boustead Tray to the winners of the RSA Women's Bowling Section Tournament.

Dawne presented the tray to Kathy Carroll (skip), Joe Wimutu (director) and Ngawai Turipa (lead). They were the winners of the last RSA Women's Bowling Section Tournament held at the Poverty Bay Bowling Club.

Joyce Boustead and Dawne instigated the tournament in 1987.

Dawne said that at that time players came from Hawke's Bay and Taupo, and entries were so great they needed more than two greens.

Due to falling numbers, the women's division of the RSA has ceased to exist and Abraham announced that this would be the last bowls tournament. She has organised this event for the past 34 years, with helpers from the women's division of RSA.

Four 90-minute games were played. Three of the eight teams had three wins, so ends won and differentials decided placings.

Second place — and a trophy donated by Dawne Abraham —went to Peter Walters (s), Steve Ward (d) and Hona Huriwai (l).

Third were Jan Powell (s), Robyn Arthur (d) and Kandyce Bevan (l).

Following the prizegiving, Dawne was presented with an azalea plant in recognition of her years organising this tournament, and she thanked those who had helped her.

The Gisborne Bowling Club held a very successful Beetham Lifestyle Village-sponsored Ernie Robinson Triples competition with 48 players competing in windy but pleasant conditions.

While most of the conversation was about the first America's Cup races later in the day, some very good games were played.

Harry Jackson skipped the winning team. The top three teams all had three wins and had to be separated by differentials.

Harry Jackson (skip), June Kinder and Peter Clay, 3 wins, plus-22 differential.

Don Green (s), Alan Parker and Peter Ferris, 3 wins, plus-16.

Gus McCabe (s), Margo Willock and Joy McFarlane, 3 wins, plus-6.

Arthur Hawes (s), Rex Richardson and Hugh Trafford, 2 wins, 1 draw, plus-20.
