Dawne Abraham presented the trophy for the Abraham Plate Mixed Graded Fours to Poverty Bay Bowling Club in 1986, and the tournament has been contested ever since.

Members from other clubs joined Poverty Bay to enable 12 teams (48 players) to compete.

As it was a graded competition, skips were required to include a new player in their team, which is a great way to give them competitive experience.

Teams played four games of 90 minutes.

The winning team won all four of their games. They were Jan Powell (skip), Barrie Denham (director), Win Baker (two) and Jack Clark (lead).

Three teams had three wins so the next places were decided on ends won.

Runners-up were Jeff Davis (skip), Joy Davis (director), Bruce Gledhill (two) and Joy McFarlane (lead) with 26 ends.

Third place went to Steve Goldsbury (skip), Ginny Sherriff (director), Peter Ferris (two) and Nanette Treloar (lead) with 25 ends.

The tournament was sponsored by Kiri Te Kanawa Retirement Village. Jane Smith, their sales adviser, presented the prizes, along with beautiful shopping bags from the village to a lucky losing team, who all had to be present. It was appropriate that Dawne Abraham's team, who finished fourth, were the “lucky losers”. The other members were Dave Hooper, Dusty Miller and Kandyce Bevan.
