EQUESTRIAN

Local shepherd Brian Arnold was the outstanding performer of the Tahora Horse Sports.

The event drew a good turnout on a hot, sunny day before Cyclone Gabrielle hit.

Arnold single-handedly won for Highland Station the Lands and Survey Cup for the local station with the most points. To find the winner of this much-coveted trophy, the combined points of shepherds and families of each station are tallied up at the end of the day. Arnold was the only person competing for Highland Station.

With his horse Wheels, he won the awards for the horse with most points and the open horse with most points.

Arnold also won the Pablo Memorial Hunter Jump Trophy, and with Wheels won the one-horse/one-rider award.

Holly Baines was the female competitor with most points and won the MS Millar Contracting Trophy for the hunter jump.

Williams also won the Williams & Kettle Trophy for the adult competitor with the most points.

In the children’s competitions, Lochie Williams was the child with most points, Oliver Barclay of Tahora Station won the Farmers Air Trophy for the local child with most points, and Joshua Barclay won the Kerry Fogarty Trophy for child most deserving.

The horse sports committee thanked sponsors for their support and prizes.
