Another swimming gold to Jack Keepa

GISBORNE teenagers Jack Keepa and Ava Smith continued their medal-winning form on day 2 of the New Zealand short-course championships in Auckland yesterday.

Enterprise Cars Swim Team member Keepa won gold in the 14 years boys’ 50 metres breaststroke and bronze in the 200 individual medley in the morning session.

Clubmate Smith won silver in the 15yrs girls’ 50m breaststroke.

Both swimmers recorded personal best times.

Keepa clocked 32.06 seconds in the breaststroke to finish behind a pair of Sydney competitors, who are ineligible to win medals.

He was third in the 200 IM in 2 minutes 13.59 seconds and also placed fifth in the 100m backstroke.

Smith’s 34.24 for silver in the 50 breaststroke qualified her for the B final in the open finals last night.

She placed sixth.

Enterprise’s Nathan Proctor was ninth in the 15yrs boys’ 200 IM and ninth in the 50 breaststroke.

Clubmate Jaimee Fisher was eighth in the 19yrs and over women’s 200 IM and seventh in the 400 freestyle.
