Grand final day in Poverty Bay Cricket will see both the DJ Barry Cup decided by the bonus points accrued in both first grade games — Bain Construction OBR v Kevin Hollis Glass Pirates, and Gisborne Boys’ High School v Bollywood High School Old Boys — while the Hope Cup final pits Coastal Ultrasound Horouta against the Stirling Logging Ngatapa Green Caps.

Both Hope Cup finalist captains are looking forward to tomorrow’s match.

“Bowling has definitely been our stronger suit this season — we go deep bowling-wise, to the ninth or 10th man,” said Horouta captain David Situ.

“We’re pumped up to go out there and give it everything.”

Matt Raleigh, speaking for Ngatapa, said: “Our boys are excited: we’re stoked to have made it as far as the final, and we’re looking forward to putting up another good performance.”

While Ngatapa cricket manager Chris Hurlstone confirmed last night that even if successful tomorrow, his club would not want to be promoted to the Doleman Cup or DJ Barry Cup competition next season, Situ has previously indicated his desire to see a promotion-relegation match played against the DJ Barry Cup’s lowest-ranking team.

The umpires in the Hope Cup final on Harry Barker Reserve No.2 from 1.30pm tomorrow will be Gary Coutts and Jason Trowill.
