Waiting on report before footbridge decision is made

A FOOTBRIDGE providing access to Makaraka Cemetery across the Taruheru River will remain off limits for about three months while repair work is assessed.

The footbridge was closed at the start of the month after issues with the timber deck and the bridge handrails were identified.

A Gisborne District Council spokeswoman confirmed that an investigation paper looked at by Tairawhiti Roads was about three months away.

“This paper will confirm options and costs. In the meantime, the bridge remains closed.”
