Work on the temporary Bailey bridge being erected at the Hikuwai No.1 bridge site on State Highway 35 has been progressing well, according to Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency.

“Getting the crane to the site is the first major milestone to instal an 85-metre-long Bailey bridge. Work on piling for it is expected to begin later this week,” said Jaclyn Hankin, regional manager of maintenance and operations.

“Design work has been completed and at this stage we’re anticipating the work to take another six to eight weeks. It’s important to note that although the weather has been favourable for the project to this point, the project is weather dependent, and any adverse weather may impact that timeframe.”
