IF you are a Gisborne resident with a penchant for art and a desire to tell local stories, Gisborne District Council wants you.
The council has put out a call for talented artists who would like to fill the community with colour by decorating the town’s Chorus cabinets.
“We’re reallylooking to highlight local artists and tell stories about the communities we live in,” said GDC communications adviser Edwina Ashwell. “It’s like an anti-graffitti vibe. Anyone can enter, so long as they are local and they can submit a concept design.”
The idea to decorate the cabinets was suggested by the telecommunications company, which runs the competition throughout New Zealand.
“They approached us so Gisborne District Youth Council decided to promote it,” said Ms Ashwell.
The first phase of the project will see five cabinets decorated. Depending on the success of the competition, a further five cabinets in Gisborne and up the Coast could also be decorated.
Those interested must submit an A4-sized drawing of their concept design to the council by this Saturday, January 21. Concepts can be sent directly to comms@gdc.govt.nz
