Re: Majority of Kiwis want a US ship to come to NZ, May 30 story.

I was not consulted in the Newshub-Reid Research poll so I am not one of the 75 percent of New Zealanders with a short memory.

I am 97 years of age and remember the first atom bomb. I remember the outcome, and who dropped it!

I am thankful that the Government of the day was brave enough to deny visitors who were unwilling to declare themselves (the neither confirm-nor-deny stance).

Now a poll apparently shows 75 percent of us think US ship visits would be a good idea.

I am not against mending fences, but would want to know what the conditions of entry would be.

We still have, I hope, a “No Nuclear Policy”.

If the attitude is still neither “confirm nor deny”, don’t count me in the 75 percent.
