Literary characters came to life at Te Wharau School recently as part of activities associated with Book Week.

Children were encouraged to come to school dressed as a book character.

“It was a fantastic success, showcasing the enthusiasm for reading within our school community,” principal Mark Harris said.

“This was only one event from a week-long celebration of books and reading which involved a range of competitions over the week. These included a Crazy Hair day, a model volcano explosion competition, decorate your door or window competition and the best self portrait.

“Our 400 students and 55 staff members embraced the event, with most dressing up as their favourite book characters and many competing in the events across the week. I would like to recognise our school Librarian, Racheal Reynolds, for the organisation and preparation for the week.”
