Gisborne Speedway Club’s doubleheader meeting has been cancelled because of the weather forecast and possible road conditions.

Action at the MTF Awapuni Speedway was to start tomorrownight, including Round 2 of the City Smart Repairs Superstock Points Dash and the Mangapapa Garage Ministock Best Pairs.

Racing on Saturday night would have been highlighted by the Phil Walsh Memorial and Bruce Ellmers Memorial saloon car events, along with the Superstock Thunder, minisprint cars and sidecars.

Club president Sam Hughes said “regrettably” they came to the decision to “give the whole thing a miss”.

“Given the forecast wet weather and likely road conditions, we felt it was the right call. With 30 cars travelling to Gisborne, it would not be good if they got stranded here due to further road closures.

“We will look to hold the meeting as soon as possible. For now, we’ve had to cancel it.”

Meanwhile, the Geuze Contracting Gisborne Gladiators team for the New Zealand stockcar teams’ championship was announced during the week.

The team are Tim Ross (44G), Haydin Barker (84G), Brad McGee (96G), Bryce Simpson (98G), Asher Rees (126G) and Ethan Rees (127G).
