NZ Transport Agency/Waka Kotahi has announced detours will be in place during six weeks of overnight sealing work on State Highway 35 in Gisborne.

Crews will begin asphalting work to renew the road surface at the Jolly Stockman intersection with State Highway 2 on Thursday before moving to other locations along SH35 over the coming weeks.

“The closures will take place between 6pm and 6am, with the potential for temporary speed limits in place during opening hours while crews are part way through completion,” NZTA’s Hawke’s Bay/Tairāwhiti system manager Martin Colditz said.

At this stage, the SH35 work programme is as follows —

April 11: The intersection with SH2/Jolly Stockman – stop/go in place.

April 30- May 9: Hirini Street to Crawford Road – full closure.

May 10-May 16: Crawford Rd to Kaiti Mall – full closure.

May 18-May 25: Kaiti Mall to Matthews Rd – likely stop/go.

“The detours in place will change as the crews move to various locations of SH35. All detours will be signposted,” Mr Colditz said.

“Road users should factor these overnight closures into their journey time and be prepared to follow the signposted detours.”
