Eastland Port had six log ships dock in January and ISO Limited loaded 150,000 tonnes of logs on to them.

“Log stock levels on port look good so we are hoping for a solid February, with nine log ships expected to come in,” an Eastland Port spokeswoman said.

“We also had seven cruise ships visit last month — nearly 1800 passengers exploring our region,” she said.

“The first of several refrigerated vessels is expected this month, to freight containerised kiwifruit out of the region. This will be an exciting milestone for local growers and our port as we look to diversify the cargo we export.”

The port has invested in a top lifter purchased from NorthPort to handle containers.

“This machine was delivered late last month and will help move containers around the port so our team are very excited to put it to good use.”
