Show of appreciation for essential workers

Bollywood Stars is offering a 10 percent discount on all food items for essential workers in Gisborne.

Owner Baljeet Sandhu said they wanted to show their appreciation for those who were “supporting everyone and working in this hard time”.

“They deserve it.”

Mr Sandhu said the restaurant had opened up partially in Level 3, providing takeaways and deliveries only.

Guidelines state that businesses must provide safe pickup points and contactless service.

In the case of home deliveries, Mr Sandhu said Bollywood staff would be dropping off orders at the doorstep.

For takeaways, the restaurant has set up a spot at the main entrance for safe pickup and eftpos payment.

All ordered items must be prepaid.

“While the contactless delivery is for everyone, we are giving a treat to the essential workers . . . if they order their favourite curries we will give them a 10 percent discount on delivery or pickup. As long as they put a certain code online and tell us that they are essential workers they will get the discount.”

The discount is running during Level 3 although it could be extended into Level 2.

Mr Sandhu said the restaurant had a rich history of serving the community through fundraisers and charities.

“We love to pay back the community.”
