THERE are two locally-connected contestants for Gisborne East viewers to cheer on when Celebrity Treasure Island kicks off next week.

Champion boxer Shane “Mountain Warrior” Cameron (pictured) and new Ngati Porou East Coast rugby signing Zac Guildford are among the line-up for the TV reality series.

Treasure Island starts on TV2 on Sunday, August 18.

The 16 contestants will battle for a $100,000 prize purse to go to their chosen charity.

Joining Guildford and Cameron on the golden sands of Fiji are Flava radio host Athena Angelou, Olympic board sailor Barbara Kendall, Olympic champion rower Eric Murray, Kiwi rugby league legend Gary Freeman, actor Jodie Rimmer, former actor Karl Burnett, singer Ladi6, model and social influencer Lana Van Hout, former bachelorette Lily McManus, TV1 Breakfast weather man Matty McLean, Solo Mio singer Moses Mackay, former The GC star Rosanna Arkle, Sam Wallace from The Hits and US broadcaster Shannon Ryan.

TVNZ promos say: “it will take more than just brawn to stay in the game”.

“Balance, endurance and a steady hand will all play a part until the final three celebrity castaways remain. “

“Those three will embark on a treasure hunt to end all treasure hunts to find the $100,000 prize.”

The series was filmed in Fiji in June and July.

Cameron’s chosen charity is the Key to Life community peer support group while Guildford’s is UpsideDowns NZ, which provides funding for speech therapy for children with Down syndrome.
