Gisborne police are aware of a planned “boy racer” event in the city over Easter and have made preparations to “stop participants in their tracks”.

The social media post reads: “Chur, the boiz been planning a invade in Gizzy for ages what better weekend then an Easter bash!!

“I think it’s time to bring as much crews as possible to SHUT DOWN GISBORNE and show them how we f...... do it, so fill your tanks slap as much sets as possible cause we down for a long ride will be skidding along side GTOWN.”

Acting area commander Inspector Danny Kirk said police knew about it and would be out to “stop participants in their tracks”.

“Staff will have a visible presence across Gisborne and participants can expect to face enforcement action for any illegal driving activities.

“Anyone who poses a risk to the safety of the public and other road users as a result of their manner of driving or other behaviour will face enforcement action,” he said.

“Those involved can expect to have their vehicle impounded and their licence taken off them where appropriate.
