Police inquiry into drive-by shooting

Police have an inquiry under way into a drive-by shooting in which shots were fired at a parked vehicle in Oxford Street in Kaiti on New Year's Eve.

At around 7.20pm a vehicle pulled up outside an address and fired two shots at the parked vehicle.

“We are not aware of anyone being injured in the incident. However, there were kids outside the address when the shots were fired,” said Detective Senior Sergeant Mark Moorhouse.

“It is hugely concerning to police that those involved would so recklessly use a firearm in the presence of young children.

“The incident seriously put their lives at risk.”

Det Snr Sgt Moorhouse said police had been speaking with a number of people in relation to the incident.

“Our inquiries are ongoing. However, we believe it was gang-related.”
