THIEVES tried unsuccessfully to break into the cash unit in ?the popular dog wash machine in Grey Street on Tuesday night.

The owners intend to install a surveillance camera in an effort ?to stop it happening again.

The owners found the machine damaged when they went to it yesterday morning.

“It was really disappointing ?and frustrating to see this happen,” said owner Nick Hata.

“We are trying to provide a service to the dog lovers of the district and this theft attempt ?has been very upsetting.

“But we had to borrow thousands of dollars to bring ?this machine to Gisborne, knowing it would take years to pay off.

“Please, friends of the dog wash, keep an eye out for trouble around our machine that we all love using,” he said.

The owners hope to have a camera installed by the end of today.
