Optimistic start to lambing season

The start to the peak of the lambing season in the district has arrived and farmers have welcomed the drier, sunnier weather.

“We’re in a pretty positive weather patch at the moment, good for the farmers and their new arrivals,” said AgFirst consultant Peter Andrew.

“Scanning percentages have been quite good, so most farmers know they’ve got good numbers of lambs coming.  It bodes well for the season.”

Lambs are arriving now on farms in the higher reaches of the district.
