The clip-on bridge project is fully funded by the NZ Transport Agency as part of its programme for improving the cycle link from Kaiti to the CBD.
The ultimate aim for widening the existing layout is to improve safety for both drivers,
pedestrians and cyclists. The added benefit of NZTA’s investment for our community is its complementary connection to the Navigations Programme which aims to showcase our region’s unique culture and heritage through linking the inner harbour precinct.
The bridge is part of the State Highway network owned by the NZTA; the rail bridge is privately owned, which is why it was ruled out.
