Most sure of CPR skills in emergency

Most people felt confident they would be able to perform CPR if the need arose, according to The Gisborne Herald's weekly web poll.

The question was, “Do you think you could perform CPR in an emergency situation?” to which 56 percent (142 votes) answered yes, 25 percent (63 votes) answered maybe, and 19 percent (49 votes) said no.

Readers might be glad to know over half the voters felt they would be able to attempt to save another person's life.

If you would prefer someone to look after you with a little practice you may want the person who voted yes, saying, “Have done . . . twice.”

Another person who voted yes seems to have back problems.

“Yes, but I would have trouble kneeling or getting down to someone on the ground.”

Someone suggests everyone should go through training, which is not a bad idea.

“Got taught at high school through Gateway programme. I would suggest everyone do a first aid course!”

One particular voter would like some more information on the question.

“What's the difference between ‘an emergency situation' and ‘an emergency'?”

This person just needs a bit of refresh.

“May need to update my CPR, apparently suppose to every two years,” said one voter who voted maybe.

Finally, a very honest person who voted no.

“Learnt how years ago, but not confident. I could do it now and cause more trouble.”

And that may be better than nothing, or maybe nothing is better than something in this case.
