Opinion
Last week I talked with two other local people who believe as I do that the Eastland Community Trust (ECT) should do more to focus on the social well-being of the people of this district.
ECT could stump up some much-needed cash to start and support initiatives that will benefit
the local people, such as a bowling alley and maybe some renovations to the mini-golf facility. I imagine that locals would use these resources, especially if it could be subsidised by ECT for people on limited incomes.
We need more activities for youth and whanau to enjoy here in Gisborne. We deserve to be at the front of the queue and ahead of the tourists. We need to provide for those who cannot afford to travel outside the area to experience such activities.
Why does ECT continue focus so much on economic development at the expense of social investment? I believe investments that improve social well-being actually improve economic outcomes as well.
