A man was taken to Gisborne Hospital with burns last night after a portable gas heater caught fire in a flat at a property in Rutene Road.
Fire and Emergency NZ were called to the property just after 8pm.
“The fire started at the back of the gas heater atthe gas connection,” a senior firefighter said.
“The occupant of the flat had put out the fire by the time we got there.
“It caused only superficial damage to the flat, but the occupant sustained some burns and was transported to hospital for treatment by St John ambulance.”
