The trick to planting kowhai and titoki seeds was shared with those who attended a free workshop run by the Women's Native Tree Project Trust at the weekend.
They also learned how to take koromiko cuttings, and potted up some koromiko and kawakawa.
“Everyone was really interested in how to
grow native trees and asked lots of thoughtful questions,” said the trust's nursery manager Kauri Forno
“Some came along because they have land they want to plant up with their homegrown native trees.”
The next Growing Native Trees workshop will be at the trust's nursery at EIT, 320 Stout St, on Sunday, August 23rd from 1-2pm.
