The latest Health NZ Te Whatu Ora figures show 44 Gisborne residents have Covid-19 as at midnight on Sunday.

That takes the total number of cases in Tairāwhiti since the start of the pandemic in March 2020 to 25,749, and  includes 39 deaths.

In the week ending last Sunday there were 6991 active cases across the country including 40 deaths.

The total number of cases since the outbreak of Covid is 2,526,109.

Of the 40 people whose deaths were reported last week, two were from Northland, 15 from Auckland, three from Waikato, two from Bay of Plenty, one from Hawke’s Bay, three were from Manawatu, four from Wellington, one from Nelson-Marlborough, four from Canterbury, one from West Coast, and four were from Otago-Southland.

One was aged in their 30s, one in their 40s, two in their 60s, 11 in their 70s, 18 in their 80s and seven were aged over 90.

Of these people, 16 were women and 24 were men.
