Two brothers accused of inflicting life-threatening injuries on a Mahia man — one of them charged with attempting to murder him — are to stand trial later this year.
Ryan Reremoana William Ormond, 28, and Harland Freeman Sterling Ormond, 25, were represented by their counsels at a video-linked case managementmeeting in the High Court yesterday.
Justice Christine Grice was told preparations were on track for a scheduled two-week trial in June.
A 47-year-old man was found seriously injured in a ditch alongside Newcastle Street in Mahia on Wednesday, March 1, last year.
His injuries were first reported as being the result of an accident.
Transferred to Waikato Hospital, he was found to have injuries so extensive that he was unable to be interviewed.
Police appealed to the public for information, prompting several people to come forward. Some pointed to Facebook posts they believed held clues about the incident.
Ryan Ormond is charged with attempted murder and alternatively with intentionally causing grievous bodily harm.
Harland Ormond is charged with intentionally injuring the man and that between April 13 and 14 last year he allegedly attempted to pervert the course of justice by influencing someone to make a false statement. Both accused are on bail.
