Jammies 4 June’s biggest year yet

JOINT EFFORT: Jammies 4 June relies on schools, businesses and the wider community to get behind it and this year the charity received its most jammies ever. It has been another outstanding fundraising effort by Jammies 4 June, with 500 pairs of pyjamas donated — up 150 pairs on last year’s record breaking total.

The charity also received 100 blankets, 110 beanies, over 100 pairs of socks, and other knitted and warm items.

It made it Jammies 4 June’s biggest year yet.

Organiser Cassandra Blumfield said she was overwhelmed by the generosity of the Gisborne community and businesses.

“I would like to thank the incredible community members, schools, early childhood services and businesses who have come together once again to support this cause in keeping our Gisborne tamariki (children) warm this winter.”

The charity started giving out the donations of pyjamas and other items last week to Elgin School, Kaiti School, Cobham School and SuperGrans.

Many more community organisations, including Waiapu Kids, Te Aka Ora, Tuhono Whanau, Women’s Refuge and Turanga Health, will be receiving donations over the next couple of weeks.

“A special mention to Aurora Education Young Leaders, who donated towards Jammies 4 June, with some of the children getting their schools on board by holding pyjama days.”

Waerenga-o-Kuri, Makauri, Motu and St Mary’s schools held pyjama days this year to get donations for the charity.

Ms Blumfield also acknowledged the generosity of multiple local businesses.
