Reducing plastic use has turned into a must amongst us but, while we like to show our commitment to this cause, people don’t seem to care as much for other social responsibilities — such as where the products they buy are from.
Is the supplier reliable, was child labour involved,
were fair wages paid and is the environmental footprint taken into account?
Also, while some of us continue shopping online in search of the “best price”, local retailers get daily visits from new and well-known shoplifters.
Online might save us a few bucks and may or may not be from reliable sources, but in no way does it support our community.
Buying local supports not only the shop owner but their staff and their families with rent, food, clothes, their kids’ swimming lessons.
