Highway through Waioweka Gorge road closed again for several hours

The slip-stricken State Highway 2 through the Waioweka Gorge was closed yet again on Tuesday morning.

Fresh slip material came down overnight Monday at the massive Goldsmith slip site.

NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi (NZTA) said the debris overwhelmed slip‑protection barriers, spilling on to the road.

Motorists were warned to expect delays.

The road was reopened to traffic late Tuesday morning.

Motorists were told to expect delays as contractors continued to clear debris.
