The Department of Conservation is continuing efforts to establish who killed and decapitated a young great white shark.
The 2.5-metre long headless shark was found at the boat ramp at Māhia last Friday.
DoC Tairāwhiti operations manager Matt Tong said the rest of the shark’s carcase was buried in an
undisclosed location.
“The location of the shark’s head remains unknown,” he said.
“Great white sharks are protected under the Wildlife Act 1953.”
