Opinion

In Saturday’s mail I got a missive from the GDC which allows me to have my “bob’s worth” about the extension to the sewerage treatment system. This is, rightly enough, part of the consultation process. I would like to strongly suggest that we all try to take the time to read this material, digest it, mark your choice, etc. and send it back in the mail format provided. If you can, you can also have a say on the website.

We have great collective power, but are most often too apathetic to exercise it. It is your money they are spending, so please have your say!

Whether the collective wishes of the ratepayers will have any effect is of course another matter.

I note that the pipeline will need to remain in the bay, for all options, as it might still be used for industrial wastewater and also as a “safety net” for system failure, as emergency discharge.

The question of pollution in the bay after heavy rain events, due to river discharge, is still unresolved by any of these options, I would imagine.
