August has been a big month for the Gisborne East Coast Cancer Society, celebrating the first year in their new complex and staging another successful Daffodil Day appeal.
But society fundraising and events coordinator Shay Podjursky says the biggest highlight was watching Daryl and Shelly Gower hit their fundraising milestone.
Over the past six years fundraiser extraordinaire Daryl has worked tirelessly, collecting scrap metal and recycling it and donating the proceeds to the Cancer Society.
In early August, his fundraising efforts ticked over to $250,000.
“What a phenomenal effort and one that makes a genuine difference in our community,”said Ms Podjursky.
“Many people around Tairawhiti have benefited from this contribution and the programmes, support and resources this has helped us to provide.
“Many, many people have helped Daryl reach this goal and we thank each and every one of you.
“Thank you Daryl and Shelly, not only for your financial support, but also for your smiles, laughter and continuously lighting up our centre each time you visit.”
