Wilencote Polled Herefords at Ngatapa kept the good news coming on Wednesday afternoon when it comes to the rising-two-year-old bull sales season in this region, with another near sell-out result.

The Humphreys family got two of their young bulls away for a top sale price of $13,000, and in all they sold 15 of their animals for $10,000-plus.

They sold 29 out of 30 in their line-up, for an average sale price of $9538.

Studmaster Matt Humphreys said it was a good, strong sale.

“We’re over the moon with the result.

“We had a real good bench of buyers and the bidding was spirited throughout the sale.”

Their bulls presented well.

“They were looking good due to the grass growth we’ve enjoyed this season,” Matt said.

“The sale result was a compliment to the season we have had in that respect.

“Our average was down a little on 2022, but then we had a bigger clearance.”

PGG Wrightson genetics expert Emma Pollitt said it was a strong sale with good support.

“It was a great sale.

“Matt and his wife Megan have done a great job since they took over the reins of the stud.”

Auctioneer Neville Clark said another good clearance at both Hereford sales was a good omen for when the Angus studs present their stock for sale towards the end of the month.

“The averages across both the Hereford sales yesterday were acceptable, the bulls were buyable

and the quality was very good,” he said.

“Overall, a solid pass mark for both Mokairau and Wilencote.

“In terms of the Angus sales it was a very encouraging outcome yesterday, and I think we’ll get a pretty good run at it with the black cattle.”

The Angus sales start with the Ratanui sale on June 23, continuing into the following week.
