Gisborne public library reopens after leaky pipe shuts it for two days

The HB Williams Memorial Library was closed for two days from Tuesday because of a flooding issue.

It was caused by a water leak from a pipe under the floor of the building, Gisborne District Council said in a statement on Thursday.

“The water was sucked out of the carpet and dehumidifiers [were] run to dry things out.

“Once dry, it was to be cleaned and dried again as a final check.

The council confirmed that the leaky pipe had been repaired.

“The water has been near the service desk, in the centre of the library and inside the lift, so care has been taken to ensure all electrical works have been thoroughly checked by professionals.

“Customers can be assured that all the books were high and dry, ready for reading once the library opened again on Thursday.”
